The special edition Honda e gets an eye-catching ‘Premium Crystal’ body colour

To celebrate its partnership with Red Bull Racing and Formula 1 title-winning driver Max Verstappen, Honda has confirmed plans to build a special version of its small pure electric ‘e’ car.

Only fifty examples of the ‘Honda e Limited Edition’ are going to roll off the company’s production line at Saitama in Japan, with each one finished in ‘Premium Crystal’ paint and costing £38,120.

Based on existing ‘Advance’ trim, Honda says the newest version of its award-winning pint-sized city run-around guarantees buyers “unique exterior styling for enhanced stand-out individuality”.

To compliment the red paintwork, the ‘Honda e Limited Edition’ sports a black roof and a dark belt that runs around the lower half of the supermini, contrasting trim pieces, smoked badges front and rear and gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels.

Minimal changes have been applied to the inside of the car, although the list of creature comforts for the driver and passengers is extensive. This includes an 8.8-inch that serves as the instrument cluster and is joined to two 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreens that span the entire width of the dashboard.

These are flanked on either side by 6-inch screens that display a live feed from the barely noticeable door mirrors that incorporate tiny mirrors.

The HDMI port can be used to plug-in a Google Chromecast or a video games console, while there are plenty of USB ports to keep the charge of handheld devices topped up.

F1 champion Verstappen recently test drove the car in Dozza prior to his victory at the Rolex Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and gave it his seal of approval, describing it as “simply lovely” and the overall appearance as “funky”.

A spokesperson for Honda UK said: “Restricted to only 50 units across Europe, the new Limited Edition offers the most exclusive Honda e experience yet.

“Since being launched in Europe and Japan in 2020, the Honda e has received critical acclaim worldwide, applauded for its innovative design and progressive technology. It has won numerous awards, including World Urban Car of The Year and the Red Dot Design Awards.”
